Halfway through her nationwide Sing My Heart Out tour, you’d think Sam would be ready for a break over Easter. With a two-week hiatus in her touring schedule, she would have been forgiven for resting her vocal chords for a while. But Sam’s made of sterner stuff.
Jumping at the chance to reprise the presenting skills she’s honed so successfully during multiple appearances on the panel of ITV’s Loose Women, Sam was thrilled by a special request from East Midlands radio station GEM 106.
With regular presenter Amy Voce off on holiday this week, a Sam Bailey-shaped hole opened up on the popular Breakfast with Sam and Amy show. And she didn’t need to think twice.
Undaunted by the early starts, Sam began her four-day guest presenter stint, on what is now effectively the Sam and Sam Show for the week, at 6AM on Monday 10 April. Finishing her last show at 10AM on Thursday 13 April, she will then turn her attention back to touring, in preparation for her next date in Yeovil on at the end of the month.
Like Amy, Sam’s a Leicester girl and, as a big fan of the show, was the obvious choice as cover for the station that covers Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and, of course, Leicestershire.
Sam said of the opportunity, “Music has always been my first passion in life, and radio presenting is just another branch of that for me. It’s an opportunity for people to see another side of me, the person behind the singing voice.”
“The tour has been incredible, every date has had amazing energy and I’m loving every moment of it, but it’s always good to mix it up with something different. It’ll also give me the chance to see my family over Easter, and refresh myself for the rest of the tour.”
Be sure to tune in as Sam and Sam brighten up breakfast across the great East Midlands. Gem 106 can be found on 106.0 FM or online through the website at https://planetradio.co.uk/gem-106/
